Mr. Brewer was born in Birmingham on October 4, 1917. He graduated from Auburn University with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1940. On March 10, 1942, he was drafted and entered the Army at Ft. McPherson, Georgia. 15 months later he was in combat as a lead radio operator on Martin B26 Marauders from England and France. He completed 69 missions and was awarded 13 decorations including 2 DFC's and 11 Air Medals.
Frank was in the trucking business with his father after the war and later was CEO of Dixie Electrical Manufacturing company in Birmingham where over persons were employed. For many years he was active in Rotary Clubs and served as Deputy Commander and Interim Wing Commander of the Alabama Wing of the Civil Air Patrol. At this writing, he currently serves as a Lt. Col. in the Civil Air Patrol.
In 1943 City, State, and National Brewer trophies were established by Frank's father in honor of Frank and his brother and the million and a half other American youths who served in aviation in World War II. Later the Alabama state and city trophies were retired and given to the Southern Museum of Flight Foundation where they remain on permanent display. Frank established a trust fund with the National Aeronautic Association to provide in perpetuity the annual awarding of the National Frank G. Brewer Trophy. Today the trophy is acclaimed to be the most prestigious award in Aerospace Education.
Frank was a founder of the B26 Marauder Historical Society and its second president. He was a co-founder of the Alabama Chapter of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society and has been a continuous participant in its affairs.
Today, in his 86th year, Frank remains active with the stock market and other investments.
