As a 1st Lt. In addition to reporting the pole’s new location in 1947 – which shortly later was confirmed by a Canadian Scientific Expedition – 1st Lt. Klein revealed the existence of additional secondary or local magnetic poles. Belatedly on Aug. 4, 2000 was awarded the ”Legion of Merit” by the USAF for his “..exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service from June 1946 to Oct. 1949”.
