Citation to accompany the award of The Distinguished Flying Cross to Frederick E. McNally:
Captain Frederick E. McNally distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a special C-123 Pilot in Southeast Asia on 9 September 1970. On that date he volunteered to fly in an extremely hazardous night combat mission while participating in a sensitive top secret operation directed by a staff agency of the United States Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. The mission involved the aerial delivery of a classified payload to three geographically separated target areas. His outstanding flying skill was a critical factor in the successful accomplishment of this sensitive and critically important mission. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain McNally reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
