Gayland Jordan has had a lifelong interest in and commitment to aviation and space exploration. His interest began with homemade rockets and model airplanes when he was a boy. Soon after graduating from UC Berkeley, he held engineering jobs with Lockheed and Douglas in the early stages of the space -program and his commitment to aviation and space exploration has continued through his activities as a private pilot and through his work in science education -with the California Department of Education. _
