    General J. Stanley Holtoner

Commanded the U.S. Air Force Flight Test Center, Edward’s AFB, CA, from 1952 through May, 1957. During this period the transition from propeller driven subsonic aircraft to supersonic jets was accomplished. I flew and evaluated all the test aircraft from the F-100, F-101, F-102, F-104, F-105, F-106 and F-107 to the X-1, X-4, X-5, the B-47, B-52, and B-66 plus helicopters from the H-5 to the XH-16 and H-34 and transports KC-135, 707 and DC-8.

Developed the concept of the single-seat radar interceptor which turned out to be the F-86D Sabrejet. Later, in this aircraft, I won the 100KM closed course race Thompson Trophy with a world’s speed record at 1110.748 KM/hr.

Commanded Fighter groups, wings and divisions in Hawaii, Iceland, England and Italy including the 82nd Fighter group.

Decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, plus various campaign medals and the FAI Comte de la Vaux, Medaille de L’Aeronautique (France).
