    During World War II, He served in the China-Burma-India Theatre as a pilot with the Fourth Combat Cargo Group 15th Squadron and flew 418 missions in support of the British 14th Army’s Burma Campaign. After the fall of Rangoon, he flew an additional 38 sorties over the treacherous Himalayas to various locations in China (The Himalayas were often referred to as “The Hump”.) Some of his awards included the Distinguished Flying Cross twice, the Air Medal five times and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with three Battle Stars.
