George C. Prill’s career in aviation began in 1941, working on Pan American Airways B-314 flying boats at LaGuardia Airport’s Marine Terminal. An aeronautical engineering graduate of New York University, his career encompassed roles as disparate as engineering, operations, marketing and management positions with both manufacturers and airlines, including Douglas Aircraft Company, the Convair Division of General Dynamics, Lockheed Corporation, TWA, Panagra in Peru, and Capitol Airways.
At several times during his career, he worked with and in public sector organizations to develop the procedures and regulations under which the aviation sector functions. These activities included Assistant Technical Director of the International Air Transport Associations (IATA) in Montreal, Technical Director of the Air Coach Transport Association; Director of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Flight Standards Service; Assistant Administrator for the FAA for Europe, Africa and the Middle East during the certification of the European Concorde supersonic aircraft; and Chairman of the Industry Sector Advisory Committee that advised the Office of the Special Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Commerce on the Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft, adopted as part of the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade in 1979.
In retirement, he continued his aviation activity as Director of Air Transportation Holdings and as editor/writer for aviation publications.
