George Edward Lovich was born (22 February, 1931, Meadville, PA) to fly. Shortly after graduating from high school (Punxsutawney, PA), he joined the Air Force and did basic training at Sheppard AFB before being stationed at Andrews AFB. There he learned to work on airplanes. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. After being honorably discharged in 1956, he became a mechanic for Capital Airlines at Washington National Airport. He learned how to fly after work getting many of his hours in an Aeronca Champion at Rose Valley Airport near Oxen Hill, MD. Later he bought a 1967 Piper Cub that had a hard landing and restored it to flying condition. Most of the time it was kept at Hyde Field, also near Oxen Hill, MD. In the 1970s he was a First Officer for Mrs. Merriweather Post on her custom turboprop Viscount. He was also in the National Guard in Georgia as a Flight Engineer on C-130s (Tech Sergeant) for about 20 years. He flew during the Grenada and Panama conflicts. Other jobs included flying air freight in Europe (until he was about 70 years old) and flying as First Officer in a Falcon Jet for a short while. In his spare time he restored a 1946 J-3 Piper Cub before selling it in 2013.
