Gideon Varga, from Exxon Research and Engineering Co., participated in a NASA/DOD jet fuel study in the 1980s. The study examined jet fuel costs and the quantity of fuel which would be produced as a function of jet fuel properties. Varga headed up the team of experts and focused on national implications. He was granted a U.S. patent for the Mars Viking Lander humidity monitor.
