    Glenn Bowlus was an engineer and inventor who worked all his life for the understanding and improvement of airplane wings, especially "active" or moving wing surfaces.

    His work experience included Douglas Aircraft, Naval Ordnance as well as research at California Institute of Technology and his alma mater Purdue University.

    Glenn also worked throughout his life with his younger brother, Hawley Bowlus, a pioneer designer of sailplanes. Hawley was factory manager at Ryan Aviation during the building of the "Spirit of St Louis."
