    Recognizing Gordon C. Kafer, an accomplished technical designer, developer, and test engineer, including flight test, within the flight control technical community; specifically, over the advanced state of the art emergence of modern and automatic flight control avionics, such as implemented in the SAAB System 37 and Space Shuttle. And, including technical and program management responsibilities and accomplishments. Also, for his professional dedication and service to the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA); he held all local offices, regional deputy director positions, and was a National Director ('87-'90). He was awarded the MS in EE, 1964, by the New Mexico State University. Memberships: honorary Eta Kappa Nu, Sigma Tau, Blue Key. Awards: notably, US Patent 3,510,090, SAAB, AIAA Engineer-of-the-Year, NASA&RI ALT, STS-1 Flag, RI & NASA OFT awards, Honeywell, and his treasured award, the Astronaut Silver Snoopy. Honorably discharged from the US Army; upon concluding his service in 1956 held the American Spirit Honor Medal.
