    Gordon D. Clark
Instrument rated Commercial license, learned to fly in high school program in Phoenix, Arizona, served in the U.S. Air Force -- 66th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. Mission aircraft was the McDonald RF101C "Voodoo".
I have always had an interest in aviation since early childhood in Chicago where I spent many hours sitting next to the fence at Midway airport watching aircraft land and take off.
Worked for United Airlines for a summer while in college, and have flown many type of aircraft including fixed wing, gliders and hot air balloons. I have always encouraged others to learn to fly with some success. I have always been proud of the role the United States has played in the development of aviation, and I am still in awe of the continuing accomplishments including the space station occupation and planned space exploration programs.
    Joan Clark
Joan has always shared my enthusiasm for aviation and space exploration. While she has patiently suffered through visits of many air museums worldwide with me, she has never lost her interest. Joan owned a hot air balloon at one time and under my instructions was beginning to learn to fly fixed wing aircraft.
We both appreciate the continuing efforts of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum's continued programs that preserve our American air heritage and its continued interest in encouraging young people to become interested in aviation and space programs as a career or just a supporter.
