    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

Gordon Delcambre was born and raised in New Iberia, La. Throughout his life he nurtured a love for aviation and harbored the dream of becoming a pilot one day. In the early 1970's he took action on his dream and registered for private pilot training at the nearby Acadiana Regional Airport, what was originally the Naval Air Station New Iberia, La. His enthusiasm and love of flying brushed off on his son, Joey, and both completed flight training together.

With Gordon's wish to keep his pilot's license current, he joined a small flying club in St. Martinville, La. and shared ownership of a Piper J-3 Cub. Flying from a grass air strip, he enjoyed years of pleasure flying with family and friends, showing them the sights and beauty of South Louisiana from the aviator's perspective.

His joy of flying influenced his son, Joey, to join the Naval Aviation Reserve Officer Candidate program, receive his commission in the Naval Reserve and proceed through flight training in Corpus Christi, TX. His son attained the rank of Captain and obtained an FAA commercial pilot's rating. Gordon's interest in flying has been passed along to his grandson, Kyle, and granddaughter, Erin.
