    Captain Gordon M. Rapier was born in Chicago, but his family moved to Gary, Indiana when he was very young. He was a student at the University of Chicago when the war began and enlisted in the Army at Fort Wayne, Indiana on December 12, 1943 and graduated on March 12, 1944, Class SE-44C. Rapier joined the 301st in Ramitelli, Italy on August 14, 1944 and flew 60 missions before returning to the States in October, 1945. Rapier was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with five clusters and the Unit Citation Ribbon as a Tuskegee Airman in the 332nd Fighter Group. Gordon is a retired Electrical Engineer making his home in Columbia, Maryland.
