    Lt Col Gordon Madison NEWMAN, USAF Retired, had a 40 year aviation career in both military and commercial aircraft. He was born 18 February 1935 in Eden, NC. He entered the Air Force in 1956 after attending NC State at Raleigh NC. After completing Aviation Cadets and Flight Training, he was assigned to Osan, Korea as a Second Lieutenant in the F-86. After his remote tour, he was assigned to the RF 101 Voodoo at Shaw AFB at Sumter, SC. His next assignment in the Voodoo was at Toul Rosieres AB, France in 1959 and Ramstein AB, Germany in 1962. During the same time he was taking classes and accumulated enough credits to get assigned to the Bootstrap Program at the University of Omaha. He graduated with a BS in 1965. He was then assigned to the 20th TRS at Shaw AFB, SC and to Udorn, Thailand.

    He was next assigned to the 4414 Training Sq at Shaw AFB. In February 1966, he had temporary duty with the Nevada Air National Guard to check out the pilots in the RF 101. In September 1966 he was hired by Pan American World Airways. He continued to fly with the Nevada Air Guard until 1976. In 1977 he was assigned to Berlin, Germany with PAN AM. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1980 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

    He flew with PAN AM until February 1986 when the Pacific routes, aircraft, and flight crews, were sold to United Airlines. With both PAN AM and United, he worked in Training at various times, retiring as a Standards Captain on the Boeing 747-400.
