My father enlisted in the Army Air Corps in October 1940. After WWII broke out, he was assigned to the 8th C.C. squad of the 1st Combat Cargo Group. He flew C47s and C46s. He was with the first troops in Japan after they surrendered. Later, he was an engineering technician at NACA, later NASA, and worked at the Langley Research Center under Dr. Richard Whitcomb, et. al., on everything from aircraft development to the Mercury capsule and space shuttle until his retirement. He is my hero.
