Kay Ressler learned to fly during college with costs covered by Air Force ROTC. He graduated from Undergraduate Pilot Training at Laredo AFB in the third class to receive all-jet training using T-37A and T-33 aircraft. He accumulated over 300 hours in C-130E aircraft flying for the Military Airlift Command. Formation flying was a favorite activity. He left the USAF as an aircraft commander in 1965, returning to graduate school. He then participated in development of the first Air Force digital avionics for the FB-111A ad the F-111D including flight support.
