Harold Tilio Maccaferri was among the thousands of young men who answered their country's call to service during World War II. Enlisting In the Army Air Force after graduating from high school, he was trained first to fly B-25 Mitchell bombers and later CG-4A gliders. The war ended before he could see service overseas and he was discharged shortly thereafter. He remained a lifelong supporter of air power.
