    Harry Paul Stough, Jr. was born on June 23, 1921, in Wilkinsburg, PA to Harry P. Stough, Sr. and Margaret Anna Pioth Stough. The oldest of five siblings, he graduated from Penn High School in 1939 and then enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from the Casey Jones School of Aeronautics as an aircraft and engine mechanic, then served a tour of duty in Newfoundland from December 1941 to mid-1942.

    In 1942 he entered the Aviation Cadet flight training program, and in 1943 completed primary flight training as a member of Class 43-H at the Hawthorne School of Aeronautics, Orangeburg, SC. He served a tour of duty with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater of Operations (ETO) piloting heavy bombers (B-17s and B-24s) out of Chelveston, England. From May 1944 to October 1944 he flew 50 combat missions, primarily in his B-17G "Rachel O" named for his wife, Rachel O. Whitlow. His military awards include the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the European Theater of Operations (ETO) ribbon with three battle stars, and the American Defense medal. Captain Stough separated from the Air Corps in 1946.

    He worked for Honeywell for 37 years. Mr. Stough was an engineer for the temperature control system on the luxury liner S.S. United States and represented Honeywell on the record-setting maiden voyage. He was a Honeywell field engineer for the environmental control, test instrumentation, and recording systems during construction of the U. S. Navy Aeronautical Turbine Laboratory in West Trenton, NJ. Harry Stough retired from Honeywell in 1983 and resides with his wife Rachel Whitlow Stough in Bracey, VA.

    Harry Stough passed away on October 27, 2007.
