Dutch Mersereau, four varsity sports letters and Student Body President of Sarasota High School, Class of 1943-44, Sarasota Florida, was the only graduating senior to be accepted into U.S. Navy V-5 Aviation Cadet program at this time in World War II. After the war and education, Dutch married Joanne Shoptaugh of Sarasota and went on to teach at Embry-Riddle Aviation University and then spent nearly 40 years as a jet engine expert for the Allison Division of General Motors Corp., retiring as the Manager of the Southeastern U.S. after several years of participation in engineering flight test developing the Lockheed C-130 Hercules series of aircraft. Retirement in N. Georgia in Southeastern U.S.
