    Headly Cecil Barnes, Jr. was born in Long Beach, California on January 14, 1927. He was in the US Army-Air Force (1944-1952) as a Sergeant, Gunner, and Bombardier in B-25s, P-61s, B-29s, and B26s. Headly flew with the 6th Army-Air Force in the Canal Zone during World War II. He then flew with the 6th Air Force 452nd Bomb Wing during the Korean War, flying in numerous combat missions. Upon returning from the Korean War, Headly went to work for Air Research Corp. as an Environmental Laboratory Supervisor testing missile power units and various missile aircraft systems until his retirement in 1983. Between World War II and the Korean War, he also received his private pilot's license.
