Chief Master Sergeant (Retired) Herbert L. Buttner, US Air Force, served a combined total of 41 years in the Air Force and Air National Guard. He served in the Korean Conflict as a B-26 crew member earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He served in many positions in the Air National Guard before being assigned to the Air National Guard Support Center at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, where he retired on Apr. 5, 1989.
