    Honoree enlisted in US Army Signal Corps July 1942. was commissioned 2nd Lt. Dec. 1942. Transferred to Air Corps July 1943, earned Pilot Wings April, 1944. Flew 16 missions as B-24 pilot over Germany in 8th AF. Left active duty in December, 1945. Entered U. of Michigan as EE Student fall, 1946. Joined Michigan Air National Guard, flew F-51's, April, 1949. Received BSEE from U. of M. Jan. 1951; recalled to active duty with ANG in Jan 1951. July 1952 to Korea as F-51 replacement pilot, 18th Fighter Bomber Group. Jan 1953, the 18th received F-86's. Flew 30 missions in F-51, 70 missions in F-86, returned to US July 1953.

    Became Regular USAF Officer Sept, l952. Received MSEE from U. of Michigan via USAFIT in June 1957. Assigned to Holloman AFB, NM in July 1957. Project 0. Testing F-101B, F-102, and F-106 interceptor radars and air-to-air missiles. July 1962 went to Alaska, was CO of 5040th A&E Maintenance Squadron to July 1965. Then to Tactical Air Command Hg. as staff officer, Branch Chief for TAC fighter missile and munitions requirements. In this assignment, helped define requirements for future "smart bombs".

    Retired from USAF Jan 1969, worked for Hughes Aircraft Co. as Sr. Project Engr. until June 1972. 1972-June 1976 Assoc. Prof. at Miss. State U. Aero Dept, and Dep. Dir. Raspet Flight Research Lab. July 1976-July 1977 B-1 devel. test engineer for crew escape system. Sept. 1977 to Jan 1985 Ford Motor Co. engine test engineer. 1985 to Sept. 1995 owned and operated "Plymouth Flight Training, Inc." a flight training, charter flight operation. Retired in 1995, moved to New Mexico.

    Enshrined in Michigan Aviation Hall of Fame in Oct., 1997. Member of Experimental Aircraft Association. Have been flying gliders since summer 1959, have International Gold Badge U.S. No. 460. Member of Daedalians and National Aviation Association.

    Military decorations include: Silver Star, DFC, 5 Air Medals, 3 USAF Commendation Medals, Korean Chungmoo with Gold Star, 3 battle stars Europe; 3 battle stars Korea, victory medal.
