    Howard Van Cortlandt Davis (1916 - 2012)

    Born: June 9, 1916 - Etowah, Tennessee.
Died: May 13, 2012 - Paradise Valley, Arizona

As First Lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II, Howard Van Cortlandt Davis was awarded an Air Medal for meritorious achievement from President Harry S.Truman. Subsequently, living in Rye, New York, Davis was a pioneer in stroboscopic photography, (capturing stop action from a cycle of multiple flashes). Davis created the first stroboscopic photographs of a helicopter in vertical flight for the Sikorsky Aircraft Company. His photos - the first of this type - were published in Fortune Magazine in 1945.

As Mayor of Saratoga, Wyoming (1970's) he was responsible for the expansion of the Saratoga Airport and sponsorship of a new airport terminal. A lifetime member of AOPA and the Wings Club, he was an avid pilot who enjoyed flying small planes from Pipers and Cessnas to Bellancas and Beechcrafts.

He is survived by three children: Jon H. Davis of Nyack, New York, Susan Davis Eley of New York City, and Robert Davis of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
