I, Hurald I. Muller, was born on February 3, 1923 in Maysville, Oklahoma. While I was yet a toddler I got nicknamed “Bud” and to the present day there are people that know me only as Bud.
My mother and father’s family re-located to New Mexico when I was just at the age to begin my formal education. I completed elementary school at Lincoln, New Mexico in 1937, high school at Capitan, New Mexico in 1941, and entered the University of New Mexico that same year. My college education was interrupted in 1943 after I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps.
I spent time and training at a number of different military facilities in the states before winding up at Camp Pendleton in California where I was put aboard ship for overseas duty. Via Guam for a few weeks stay and then on to Okinawa where I finally was put in the 1st Marine Division. World War II ended in 1945 and the 1st Division was sent to China. We spent about one year in the cities of Tientsin and Peking before I was aboard a troop transport heading back to the USA. I was discharged from the Marine Corps in August of 1946.
I re-entered the University of New Mexico in 1947 and received my B.S. Degree in Geology as a member of the class of 1950. I spent twenty five years working for Shell Oil Company and then almost eight years for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency before I retired December 31, 1994.
I am very interested in both National Aviation and Space Exploration and especially Space Exploration and Astronomy. When I give due consideration, it is astonishing at the progress and accomplishments that have occurred in my lifetime. I am very grateful to and appreciate every human being and other life forms on Planet Earth that contributed to this success.
