Ira G. Hedrick's major in college was Civil Engineering. He chose a curriculum heavy in structural analysis. After college he worked eleven years in the civil engineering field as designer and analyst. In 1943 he went to work for Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation. He became the Chief Technical Engineer and Senior Vice President of the Grumman Corporation. He retired in 1980 but served as a consultant to the Grumman Corporation until June 1994.
