    Ira S. Gottfried has been flying since 1959 and is licensed as an Airline Transport Pilot in multi-engine aircraft and as a Commercial Pilot in single-engine land and seaplanes. By 2003, he has accumulated over 5000 flying hours, including 1000 hours of instrument flight. He owned six airplanes, including two single engine and four twin engine aircraft.
    His love of aviation permitted flights from Los Angeles to the Bahamas, twice to Alaska and over the Arctic Circle, many trips throughout Mexico, and travels to the contiguous states. He served as President of the Airventures Club of Southern California and wrote articles on DUATS (Direct User Access Terminal Service) for the FAA magazine in Southern California. In 2002, he was awarded Level XI Wings by the FAA.
