    Irving S. Watman started his career in California in 1936 as an aeronautical engineer at Douglas Aircraft Company. In 1940 he was hired by Republic Aviation Corporation of Farmingdale, New York where he worked for over 25 years. While there, he was a major design contributor on the following fighter aircraft projects:

    P-47 Thunderbolt used in the European campaign of World War II
    F-84F Thunderstreak used in the Korean War
    F-105 Thunderchief used in the Viet Nam War.

    He completed his career at Grumman Aircraft Engineering of Bethpage, New York as a Project Engineer in Advanced Systems until his retirement in 1977. He was a key contributor to the Airborne Warning and Communication Systems (AWACS) Program.
