    Honored by:

Mr. Reding has made fundamental contributions to the field of unsteady aerodynamics. He has authored over 80 papers on the subject. Some significant practical contributions include; verification that the Apollo rocket boosters were safe from aeroelastic instability, avoidance of structural failure of the Space Shuttle booser by shielding the liquid oxygen tank cable tray, design of the aerospike for both Trident I & II Fleet Ballistic Missiles which reduced the drag of these vehicles by half, redesign of the nose shroud for the Seasat A satellite to avoid aeroelastic instability and structural failure during ascent, and development of a means for predicting the effects of transition on reentry body dynamics that had eluded the industry for over 20 years. He also participated in the aerodynamic design of 23 missile, space booster and reentry vehicles and was the leader of the Aerodynamics Group at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company.
