    Air and Space Friend

    Honored by:

Major Jack Hahn distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as C-130E Navigator at Katum Air Field, Republic of Viet Nam on 1 May 1970. On that date, Major Hahn flew eight combat emergency resupply sorties into Katum Air Field to deliver arms and ammunition to Army Special Forces in support of the Cambodian Offensive. Precision navigation was required to avoid both Allied and hostile artillery fire, as well as locating the area which was covered by dense smoke and haze. Despite continuous hostile small arms fire in the immediate area, all urgent supplies were delivered as scheduled. The final sortie was accomplished at dusk, and involved the voluntary rescue mission of non-combatants (U.S. war correspondents) who were stranded in the battle zone. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Hahn reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
