Citation in General Orders Number 61, 31 March 1945, for the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Jack W. Wiltz, First Lieutenant, 524th Fighter Squadron, 27th Fighter Group. For extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a P-47 type aircraft. On 8 February, 1945, Lt Wiltz led a forward fighter control mission in the region of Massa, Italy. Despite accurate enemy anti-aircraft fire, Lt Wiltz attacked an enemy strongpoint, a castle, and surrounding buildings on a ridge, with fuel tank incendiary bombs from low altitude to score two direct hits on the castle, covering it with fire. Others in his flight scored four direct hits on the surrounding buildings. Lt Wiltz's daring and superior flying skill are worthy of the highest commendation, reflecting great credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces.
