    After High School graduation in June 1956 James enlisted in the U. S. Air Force (July 56). He completed basic training at Lackland AFB Texas, and was then transferred to Scott AFB in Illinois where He completed technical training in Aircraft Radio and Navigation electronics. From Scott AFB he was transferred to Patrick AFB (1957) in Cocoa Beach, FL where he served the remainder of his four-year enlistment and was discharged in July 1960.

    In late 1960, James moved to California where he took employment with North American Aviation in Downey, CA working on the ‘Hound Dog’ weapon system (Air-to-Ground missile). He and his wife Eve bought a home in Norwalk, CA where they lived until being transferred to Kennedy Space Center Florida in January 1964. James lived in Titusville, FL and settled in for almost 10 years while working on the Apollo Lunar Landing program.

    James transferred back to California in late 1973 with Rockwell International (previously North American/Rockwell) and lived in Buena Park (CA) for 2 years and then transferred to the Palmdale (CA) facility in March of 1976 working on the Space Shuttle Orbiter program.

    James terminated his employment with Rockwell Int. in 1985 and did some small contracting work out of his home and later contracted to AIL Systems Inc. at Edwards AFB working on the B1B bomber, Defensive Avionics Systems.

    James retired in 1998 and spent some time maintaining their home, researching genealogy and traveling by motor home.
