    J. Ludders

Jim grew up during the "Golden Age" of aviation in the United States. As a boy, he could be found most weekends (and some schooldays much to the consternation of his teachers) hanging around his home-town airport in Bridgeport, Connecticut. He learned to fly. He watched a local inventor, Igor Sikorsky, develop the helicopter. He worked with Chance-Vought Corp. during WWII in the flight test program for the Corsair fighter during which he met Charles Lindburgh. After the war, Jim's career grew with aviation, first in the corporate flight department and then in airport management. He became manager of the home-town airport, now called Sikorsky Field, and later at the Tweed-New Haven Connecticut Airport. He was a founder of the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives and its annual International Snow Symposium. Upon retirement, Jim kept in touch with the world of airports as a representative of our airport consulting firm. We have been honored by his association and wish to recognize his contribution through this donation to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum Dulles Center.
