    The honoree’s love of aviation began early in life. At seventeen he flew a C-3 Aeronca solo after two hours instruction. A year later, he flew a little 40 hip Taylor Cub 600 miles to Miami, FL Air Show. Enrolled in CAA Civilian Pilot Training Program June ’41 and finished Jan. ’42. War now declared, he volunteered to US Army Air Corp Flying Cadet Program, Accepted, Reported to Kelly Field, Texas and after intensive light and ground school training graduated Jan. ’42. Class of 43A as a 2nd Lt. U. S, Army Air Force Pilot, qualified for single and multiengine aircraft. He piloted B-26 over northern route to English base. In combat for 15 consecutive months, he flew B-26s on 73 bombing missions over dangerous enemy occupied Europe.
