Mr. Downing was on active duty with the military from 1948 to 1949. Was stationed with the 101st Airborne at Camp Brackinridge, Kentucky.
Was also stationed with the 516th Quarter Master at Camp Lee, Virginia.
Acquired his private airplane pilot’s license in 1994 at the age of 64.
Owned and operated his heating and air conditioning business until his recent retirement and is well informed about Civil War and World War II history.
