Jim was on the lead B17 in WWII when they bombed the bridge at Bolzano, Italy. Plane flew up 1 ½ minutes after they completed their bomb run on December 25, 1943. He was killed instantly according to the report I received from the War Department.
He had been based in Tunisia, then the 15th Air Force 122nd Bomb Squadron was transferred to Sicily December 1, 1943. He was my husband and his son James P. Madsen III was born December 1, 1943.
