    James R. Grant was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1968 and served as a navigator on KC-135 and RC-135 aircraft until 1976. He flew 769 combat hours in Southeast Asia and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for a mission on 21 Dec 1972, as well as 6 Air Medals during 1969 -1975.
    After separating from the Air Force in 1976 he joined the Vermont Air National Guard. A graduate of the USAF Electronic Warfare School in 1977, he served part time as an electronic warfare and weapons system officer on EB-57, T-33 and F-4 aircraft, and was the first F-16 wing electronic warfare officer in the Air National Guard from 1986 -1988. After 5,100 flying hours during 20 years he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel and staff officer in 1992 from Vermont Air National Guard Headquarters.
    James Grant was employed with General Electric Aerospace while serving part time in the air guard. He was manager of advanced programs business development for sensors and later flight control and power generating systems. Some of these development programs resulted in production systems for the F/A-18, B-2, C-17 and F-22 aircraft.
