Honored by:
Ms. Naomi Fraenkel Altschul
James Sloan Altschul was literally "born" into aviation. He is the son of Selig Altschul and Marylin Bender Altschul, authors of "The Chosen Instrument: Juan Trippe, Pan Am, and the Rise and Fall of an American Entrepreneur." His father was the Founder and President of Aviation Advisory Service, a financial consulting firm that specializes in the airline and aerospace industries. As a result of his parents' work, Jim received an early taste of the joys of aviation and was mentored by many of the pioneers of civil aviation. Jim succeeded his father as President of AAS in 1992 and follows his father as an Udvar-Hazy Center honoree.
Jim's current work focuses on general aviation. Under his tenure, Aviation Advisory Service was the first entity to create a partnership for the financing of airplane hangars. Jim's entrepreneurial spirit, imagination, and business acumen have been central to the success of this project.
Jim takes delight in seeing the world, particularly when it entails airplane travel and airport visits. He particularly enjoyed his time at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum. It is hoped that this gift will allow others to experience some of the happiness that the aviation industry provides to him.
