    Ms. Joan Klatskin

Jerome B. Klatskin was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 31 October 1967 for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Klatskin distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 31 October 1967, while serving as an aircraft commander of an armed helicopter during a recovery mission in the Republic of Vietnam. When an infantry unit sustained a large number of casualties, Warrant Officer Klatskin volunteered to attempt the extraction. Flying his aircraft through adverse weather conditions and poor visibility, Warrant Officer Klatskin made several attempts to penetrate the cloud cover into the hazardous landing zone. Finally succeeding, he landed his helicopter and safely evacuated the wounded soldiers. Warrant Officer Klatskin's outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
