I learned the Central Fire Control System (CFC) at Lowry Field, Colorado and was assigned to the 497th Bomb Group (Very Heavy), 871st Bombardment Squadron (B-29s). We flew to Saipan in October 1944. I flew 37 combat missions to Japan and got credit for one probable kill on my first mission. We were on our way to the States when the first atom bomb fell on Hiroshima. I was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and am a member of the DFC Society.
