Grumman Aircraft Corporation and a host of other aircraft builders on New York’s Long Island were looked up to as an example of American “Know How” when I grew up in the 40s and 50s. I was privileged to work with the Grumman family -- Mr. Grant Hedrick, Mr. George Titterton, Mr. Bill Rathke -- on a first name basis as Jerry.
With other builders of the Navy’s defenders of our great country during World War II, they pushed the next generations of engineers like me into supersonic flight and lunar landings. They contributed great strength to America during the long period of peace enjoyed since World War II.
