    Honored by:

Ms. Joanne Aaronson, of Reston, Virginia grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and from a very early age wanted to be an astronaut. Finding out how difficult such a pursuit really would be, she opted to study physics at the University of Denver. (She did, in fact, research the new astronautics program at the University of Maryland and found the requirements too rigorous). Joanne's research professor arranged an internship for her at Goddard SFC during the summer of the Apollo 11 flight; during this time she watched the splash down from the control room!

Graduating in 1971 with her degree, she went on to work as a project manager in the telecommunications field for industry, the federal government and the intelligence community. During her more than three decades of corporate career she led projects involving the first global network, the first use of digital certificates within the government and the business transactions within the government for GSA. During her semi-retirement years Joanne helped many clients achieve their highest potential via her life coaching practice. Now, fully in retirement, she continues to be of service where possible, volunteers for various organizations and pursues her hobby of ballroom/tango dancing. Ms. Aaronson may be contacted regarding any support of STEM initiatives.
