    In January 1944, during my senior year of high school, I became of draft age. I volunteered for service with the United States Army Air Force, and entered February 12, 1944.
    I trained as an aerial gunner, radar operator and flight engineer on a B-29 Superfortress aircraft. After being assigned to a flight crew, I was sent to the Pacific War zone. I was then assigned to the 20th Air force, 58th bomb Wing, 444th Bomb Group, 678th Squadron.
    As a right blister gunner and relief engineer, I flew 13 bombing missions over Japan from Tinian Island and Iwo Jima.
    I attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded Battle Stars for Air Offensive on Japan and Battle of Western Pacific as well as two Air Medals and Distinguished Unit Badge.
    I was honorably discharged from military service May 14, 1946.
