Lt. Col. John F Payne was a regular Air Force officer who honorably served his country in the Pacific during WWII. He died at his desk in the Pentagon of a heart attack in 1950.
He finished his aviation flight cadet training at Brooks and Kelly Fields in San Antonio, Texas in 1925 or 1926, in the same class as Charles Lindburgh.
