John's fascination with flying machines began when he was about ten years old. He grew up in western New York, where his nearby cousin owned and flew small planes. John loves engineering and mechanical machinery -- especially trains and airplanes. John is a fantasy and science fiction fan and, so, is keenly interested in space travel, as well as astronomy. But his passion is for trains, boats, and planes -- especially World War II boats and planes.
This honorarium was purchased for John by his wife, April, in honor of his 56th birthday. By example, John has taught her that it's important to foster hobbies and expand your knowledge of the world and universe.
