    John J. Attias received his Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering) in 1948 from the California Institute of Technology (CIT), and his Master of Science (Aeronautics) from CIT in 1949.

    He worked at TRW and for Hughes on the following programs: rocket systems including Atlas, Minuteman, Thor, and Titan. He worked on the Apollo program and on communication satellites. He was given the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) "Silver Snoopy" award for professional excellence. He received a commendation for his contribution to the Lunar Module Descent Engine (LMDE) in the early development of the Apollo Program (1963-1964).

    In 1971 as a member of the Apollo 11 team he was awarded the NASA Medallion commemorating the first astronauts stepping onto the lunar surface.

    He is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and in the college of fellows of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering (IAE).
