Ardelle Wittman
John (Jack) J. Wittman, Jr. was born and raised in Anacortes, Washington. He became "hooked on flying" from an early age, making his solo flight at the age of 18 on September 4, 1948, thereafter proclaiming frequently and to all that "it don't get no better than this!"
In 1960, having had to make do with a local pasture as airfield for his Piper J-3 Cub, he joined the Skyline Pilots Association, and in 1968 became its president. Skyline Pilots Association was a coalition of private pilots lobbying the city for a modern full-service airport. By 1970 with his family and a cream/white Beechcraft Bonanza alongside, he officiated in ceremonies opening the Anacortes Municipal Airport. Regarded as a careful flier, Jack was at home in the cockpits of all single- and multi-engine land and sea aircraft, traversing skyways over the San Juan Islands and the Puget Sound for business and pleasure.
Jack continues to be a great enthusiast of flying and keeps abreast of General Aviation events.
