After receiving a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in aeronautical engineering from Georgia Tech and a Masters of Science (MSc) from California Institute of Technology (CalTech) in 1948 Mr Wimpress became an aerodynamics engineer with the Boeing Co. He worked on the B-47 and B-52 bombers, the KC-135 tanker, and the Boeing 707 and 747 commercial transports, becoming Chief Aerodynamics Engineer for the company in 1966.
He was Director of Engineering for the YC-14 experimental short take-off and landing (STOL) military transport and received the Aircraft Design Award in 1978 from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for leading the development of this unique airplane.
He was Chief Technical Engineer on the Boeing 757 commercial transport and retired in 1986 from the position of Director of Product Development where he concentrated on refining commercial transport designs.
