    John Brilla was born October 4, 1939 in Minersville, Pennsylvania. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering in 1964 from Pennsylvania State University. From 1965 to 1975 he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford, Connecticut. His work included flight development engineer for the CH-53A Sea Stallion, aircraft manager for the S-67 Blackhawk, and aircraft manager for the UH-60A Black Hawk. From 1975 to 2000 he was at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Ames Research Center. His work included project engineer, Rotor Systems Research A/C (RSRA), Aircraft Manager RSRA, Flight Test Director UH-60A rotor loads program, and Project Engineer for the Civil Tilt Rotor Project Office. He is the author of NASA TM-4446, The Modern Rotor Aerodynamic Limits Survey.
