    JOHN M. GLANT JR, US Army Air Forces (USAAF), World War II. Drafted in 1942 and reported for active duty on January 1943.

    After basic training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland he was assigned to the 533 HM TK at Fort Benning, GA.

    In June of 1943 he was accepted as an Aviation Cadet and transferred into the USAAF. He trained in several locations and took additional training in electronics and radar. He was next assigned to the 17th Reconnaissance Squadron (Bomb) of the Fifth Air Force in the Pacific Theater. The Squadron was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

    He was awarded:
    American Campaign Medal
    Asiatic/Pacific Medal with one Bronze Star
    Philippine Liberation Medal
    Occupation Medal with Japan Bar
    Good Conduct Medal
    Victory Medal.

    He was honorably discharged in February 1946 and was always proud to have served his country. Always a loyal supporter of the Air Force he is a member of the Air Force Association, Olmstead Chapter 222 and the National Air & Space Museum.
